Mormons are often asked, “Are Mormon’s Christian?” and “Do you believe in Jesus Christ?” The answer to both of those questions is a resounding yes! There has never been a time since the restoration of the Church that Mormon’s didn’t have a deep and abiding faith and testimony of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
Mormon’s believe that only through the atonement of Jesus Christ can we enter back into the presence of God where our true and original home resides. Simply stated, Mormon’s believe in Christ, preach of Christ and desire to be like Christ in thought, word and deed. Because of his eternal atonement we can be freed of our sins, our transgressions, our pain and our own personal suffering. He is the truth, the light and the way.
Mormon’s believe in Faith, Works and Grace. Without faith in the Lord Jesus Christ our works will be in vain, and despite everything we can do with our good works it will never be enough to overcome our sins. Because of the sacrifice of our Savior in the garden of Gethsemane and on the Cross he alone paid the price of our sins if we repent. Because we truly can’t repent of every thing we have done in our lives from our thoughts to our actions, it will be by his grace that we are saved to enter into the kingdom of God.
Make no mistake that Jesus Christ is the corner stone of our religion. It is he who we try to be like, talk like and think like. While we are called Mormons the correct name of the Church is, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is at the center of our lives and the reason for our faith the driving purpose of our lives.
Mormons believe that Christ is who he said he was, “the Son of the living God”. We believe that he is the creator of this world; we believe he was the God of the Old Testament and we believe that he rose on the third day after his Crucifixion. He is the way, the truth and the light of the world. We believe in living a Christ like life, meaning we believe in being Christian because we are at our core Christian in every sense of the word.
The question is why is it that many have the impression that Mormon’s may not be Christian. One reason that maybe the case is that Mormon’s do not display the Cross on our places of worship. The reason for that is that we are much more focus on his resurrection from the dead than we are of his death on the Cross. That is not to say that we condemn or judge anyone who display’s the cross. We try to make our symbol of our Christianity our lives and the way in which we live them. In other words our sign or symbol of being a Christian is living a Christ like life.
What is surprising is that we are now the fourth largest religion in the United States and given everything we believe in about Christ we are still asked are Mormon’s Christian? So as a Mormon I would like to proclaim that yes we are Christian in every sense of the word. We learn from an early age that we must be like him and believe that by no other name will we be able to enter into the Kingdom of God. We love him, we worship him and we desire all to come unto him. With him we can do all things and without him we can do nothing. So if you are ever asked, “Are Mormon’s Christian?” you can proclaim with great confidence, “Yes they are!”
